Everything Is Marketing
In business, everything you do is marketing. Why? Because the world is a stage! And by leveraging everything you do—including the routine services you perform—you create an opportunity to reach new people in new places.
We hear you saying “well, not everything is marketing,” and we understand where you’re coming from, but let us take you on a journey through several examples of what we're calling "everyday marketing." Everyday marketing is the otherwise day-to-day activities you’re participating in that could be leveraged into excellent marketing opportunities. And we’re speaking from experience here.
Innovative Service IS Marketing!
One of our favorite stories to tell hails from this video we created with the engineering geniuses at Schnabel Construction. Back in 2021, Schnabel Construction worked on a project with a client that required some serious innovation. We won’t get too much into the details, but basically, they needed to move heavy equipment into a 40’ deep shaft while avoiding the construction crew’s worst nightmare: overhead powerlines. For Schnabel Construction, innovative service is a daily occurrence. They are often working around complicated challenges—but this time, they decided to capture their engineering success story on camera so that it can be shared on socials, used on their website, and sent to clients as an example of what they’re capable of.
In other words, they took an extra step to capture their innovation in a shareable format, which turned an ordinary job into an extraordinary marketing opportunity. Score! 🏆
Supporting Your Community IS Marketing!
In our search for examples of everyday marketing around Grand Rapids, we stumbled upon this post from Treadstone Mortgage, who had a great idea during our most recent heat wave. Although Treadstone is a mortgage firm, they made a special post linking out to beloved GR ice cream brands in a uniquely valuable article which helps other businesses in the community. While they weren’t plugging for their services directly, Treadstone’s post has several benefits to their brand: it keeps social feeds active, it increases name recognition, and it keeps their business at the forefront of the viewer’s mind, even if the post isn’t directly about mortgages. It’s a classic win-win-win—a win for Treadstone, a win for local business, and a win for the ice cream lover in search of their next cool treat.
Catching Big Fish IS Marketing!
You heard that right! 🎣 If you’re out for your next great catch, don’t hesitate to snap a quick video for your Insta feed. We are extra impressed with this post from Werkman Outfitters. This post is a perfect example of how a fishing charter service can do everyday marketing: by showing off their potential customer’s next great catch. With one epic catch and release clip, Werkman Outfitters showcased their services in action while also featuring a local stop for the summer, potentially catching not just a few fish, but a few extra pairs of eyes with their well-crafted Insta reel.
Efficiently Running Events IS Marketing!
Let us introduce you to another of our friends: SAM Auctions. We worked with SAM Auctions to get the inside scoop on what makes their business successful. We also had the opportunity to fly out to Chicago to capture footage of one of their events—in other words, we got to capture their efficiency in running a liquidation event on film. What could’ve been just a run-of-the-mill liquidation event for SAM Auctions has become a valuable piece of marketing material, providing a sneak-peak for potential customers—both those who need liquidation and those who shop liquidation sales—to see what they’re in for when they go with SAM.
Attending Events IS Marketing!
Not just in person marketing, of course—it's great social media marketing, too! We all know that Instagram feeds are highly customized to highlight the most beautiful things in life—why not leverage that to your advantage? Peep this amazing shot of Decaydence Vintage set up to sell in front of the Calder! Even weeks after the event in question, Decaydence can still benefit from the gorgeous vibes created by their expert display. Don’t forget to share your hard work whenever you set up a booth.
Keeping Puppies Happy IS Marketing!
When we’re taking a scroll break, nothing stops the scroll quite like pet content. Especially this adorable picture of puppies playing from Nature of the Dog in Ada. Another way to title this section: Making Happy Customers IS Marketing! Even if those customers are adorable puppies. And you never know who might be scrolling through that feed thinking to themselves, “I bet my dog would love that!”
Making People Cry IS Marketing!
If you know us, you know we are proud of our work with weddings. We never miss an opportunity to share a wedding video, or to highlight the other vendors who helped make each wedding day an amazing success. We treat every wedding video as a marketing opportunity; we want to make the bride and groom happy, but we also know it’s important to impress anyone else who might be watching, too. The hope is that someone who is looking for wedding vendors can find what they’re looking for in our video or in the services offered by our affiliates. And besides, who doesn’t love to see a bride and groom on their best day?
So there you have it. From adorable puppies to never-before-seen construction innovation, the little things you do every day can blossom into excellent marketing opportunities. You’re already doing it! So why not capture it and show the world?
